Take the Pledge

Take the Personal Pledge.

the deficiencies of the systems within our community that have historically excluded, harmed or ignored Black people, indigenous people and people of color.

pledge to acknowledge

I,

I will be an advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, striving to uplift the voices, work and ideas of all people, especially those who have been marginalized because of the color of their skin, their background, their ability or their lifestyle.

I vow to continue educating myself on the experiences of others, my learned biases and the consequences of my actions in order to better the experiences of Black, indigenous and people of color in the arts and beyond.

Organizational Pledge

A Pledge for arts organization leadership to make a public commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and build an action plan to implement programs for continued education and added accessibility in programming and the workplace

We, as the leaders of [Organization], pledge to acknowledge the deficiencies of the system within our community and this organization that have historically excluded, harmed or ignored Black people, indigenous people and people of color.

We will prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion within our organization, programming produced and promoted by our organization, and for personnel at every level of our organization -- volunteers, part- and full-time employees, artists, board members, directors and other leadership and decision makers -- knowing that a workforce and base of artistic works that represents the full spectrum of our community will benefit all of the artists, organizations and patrons within our enriched arts ecosystem.

We will be receptive to feedback from those within our organization and those in the community in order to create needed change.

We will push for continued education for our staff and board to better understand the viewpoints of others with increased cultural competency, recognize our learned biases, and anticipate the consequences of our actions in an effort to better the experiences of Black, indigenous and people of color in the arts and beyond.

Based on this creed, we commit to build and implement a plan of action on a specified timeline.
